Well, hello there! I’m Aleda and I’m a writer. I received my BA from Virginia Commonwealth University in Fashion Merchandising with a specific interest in how culture and history play into fashion. I received my MA at George Mason University in Professional Writing and Rhetoric.

I’ve written on topics like fashion shows, fashion theory, cultural appropriation, sexual identity, gender, philosophies of mortality, and music. I have attended fashion shows for Essence Magazine during New York Fashion Week. I interned at CA Creative in New York as a media intern where we helped to craft a brand identity for clients through social media and SEO. When I interned at RVA/Gay RVA Magazine as a fashion intern, I interviewed actors for upcoming plays, covered Teen Vogue’s Fashion University, art events in the local area, politics of intersex identity, body shaming, and social injustices towards the Black community.

Random things that I love:

  • Hummingbirds
  • Cat Videos
  • Jazz music
  • Hot Tea
  • Art shows
  • Museum exhibits

Rules I live by:

  • Never be afraid of change
  • Multiple truths can exist at the same time
  • Mistakes are good

“The precise role of the artist, then, is to illuminate that darkness, blaze roads through that vast forest, so that we will not, in all our doing, lose sight of its purpose, which is, after all, to make the world a more human dwelling place.” — James Baldwin
